The Water Cycle Song!

People Saver Course  :)

Today we had the great privilege of Mrs Behere from NZ Red Cross (whose daughter knows Monique from St Francis' school), teach our class Basic First Aid, in a course specially designed for children, called 'People Savers'.  (It teaches skills of basic life preservation and first response, minus C.P.R.)

I was so proud of our students, their attentiveness, good manners and intelligent, thoughtful answers.  Mrs Behere said that she normally does not give Year 5 & 6 students some of the more difficult questions and problems, but she was very impressed with our class, so did this time. :-)

What was covered:
• How to call for help
• Circulation/bleeding
• Dangers
• Shock/nose bleeds
• Response
• Broken bones
• Airway
• Burns and scalds
• Recovery position
• Poisons
• Breathing

Children are encouraged not to try to do things themselves but to dial 111, get an adult/ shout for help IMMEDIATELY.  If alone, how to check airways & breathing & stabilise, stay with and reassure someone in the recovery postion, until help arrives.

At the end of the day, students had completed a First Aid workbook and were presented with their very own People Saver Course Certificate!
